There are a number of laser procedures that we can perform for you at the West Coast Glaucoma Centre. Most of these are related to helping in the treatment of glaucoma, such as Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI), Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) and Gonioplasty or Iridoplasty. The LPI is generally indicated if you have narrow angles at risk of leading to angle closure glaucoma, by relieving ‘pupillary block’ that could lead to complete closure of the drainage angle. SLT can be used as an alternative to starting or adding a glaucoma medication in order to lower the intraocular pressure in patients who have open angles. Gonioplasty/iridoplasty can sometimes be tried in patients whose angles continue to close even after LPI has been performed in certain types of angle closure glaucoma such as plateau iris syndrome.
