3 Days Before Having Surgery

Three days prior to surgery, you should start taking some of your eyedrops that were prescribed specifically for the peri-operative period. Specifically, all patients undergoing glaucoma or cataract surgery will have been prescribed an antibiotic drop, usually Vigamox, four times per day. In addition to this, some patients who have inflammation in their eyes or are prone to increased inflammation, will be asked to start taking or increase their dose of anti-inflammatory drops such as prednisolone acetate (PredForte.) Certain patients undergoing glaucoma drainage implant devices may be asked to start prednisone pills within 3 days of the surgery.
